"To give away money is an easy matter and in any man’s power.  But to decide to whom to give it, and how large, and when, and for what purpose and how, is neither in any man’s power nor an easy matter..."

What We Provide to families:

Each of our apartments come equipped with stoves, refrigerators, beds, built in dressers, and a dining table with chairs.  We also provide an on-site laundry facility (hence we cannot accept washers & dryers).  These are the basic necessities, but a far cry from having the resources to help a family set up a household. Without ongoing help from the community, it wouldn’t be possible.

What Our Families Need:

Our greatest need is for items that help our families “set-up house”:

  • Pots, pans, dishes, kitchen  utensils, cleaning supplies, & tools
  • Bed linens, blankets, towels, bath supplies and toiletry items.
  • Furniture: small dressers, cribs, infant & toddler items, working TV’s
  • Misc.: storage bins, office supplies, non-perishable food, flashlights
  • Computers - In Good Working Order

What Our Child Development Center Needs:

We usually have over 100 children of all ages living at the Esplanade House, so our childcare center “wish list” is ongoing! See a detailed wish list.

How Your Donations Are Used

All donations to Esplanade House are either used on- site by our families, or shared with other local organizations in need (should we have a surplus). Each family that enters Esplanade House is given a “Welcome Kit” with all the basic necessities they need, and are given guidelines for cleanliness so they can pass their house checks. Families are expected to learn organizational skills as well as good household habits. Clothing, non-perishable food, and other items are available on-site in our Donations Room and used as needed.

Donation Items We Cannot Accept:

There are some donations that we don’t accept because they are either already provided ( e.g. Refrigerators, stoves, washers/ dryers, beds) or we lack the capacity to store them and/or fix them. They are:

  • Major appliances
  • Upholstered furniture that has not been cleaned.
  • “Out of Season” clothing
